No such thing as too much coffee for this crazy coffee couple!
This weekend our coffee craze has us back out in Wicker Park (Sorry Danny!) There just recently opened a new coffee house called the Red Beard Cafe. Where they are roasting the beans on site! Love this!
Red Beard Coffee owner is originally from Southern California where he was apart of group called the Bohdi Leaf Coffee Traders, so he knows his way around the coffee scene. This is the first cafe to open in Chicago and there is rumor a few more will open in the coming year! So before the hype kicks off I planned to get out there and give them a try, so far all the reviews of their coffee were pretty good. The more shops that open the more popular it will become.
The Red Beard Cafe has a very typical Wicker Park coffee shop feel, very rustic with the exposed brick walls, the coffee roaster on display in the front window, all wood tables and booths lining the wall and coffee beans of course roasted in house bagged and tagged and ready for purchase. I mean I was loving it and found it quite cozy, I also love when coffee shops roast their beans in house, the aroma of the beans gets my mouth watering right away.
The barista this morning was hilarious, just had the best personality and was welcoming from the start. Joked a little back and forth with us while we decided what to order and was extremely knowledgeable about the coffee and beans. All are sourced from central America countries, brought to the shop here in Chicago and roasted on site! Couldn’t get more fresh than that. I actually now have some coffee regret and wish I had purchased some beans to bring home.
Once we each landed on our drinks, for me the lavender latte with an extra shot and for Danny the almond joy latte with and extra shot. Mind you they do double shots as it is so for me this was about to be a latte with four shots of espresso in it! I am honestly not sure who’s latte was better in the end. They were both so perfect with the right amount of foam and steamed milk. The sweetness was suttle and you could still taste the espressos acidity at the end. Yum I could drink this all over again. Danny’s almond joy though…… I still cannot stop thinking about it. I am not one to order drinks like this but this one gets the A-OK in my book. White first sipping you tasted the espresso mixed with the nutty coconut flavor and then at the end felt the warm light mocha hint slide down your through. It was just fabulous! Such a perfect drink I think we were both pleasantly surprised by it. Hilariously enough Danny did not connect the dots that the almond joy latte was clearly named after the candy bar and that this is why he had some mocha in it.
Like hello sir!? What planet are you from? I think at first he was just expecting it to be almond flavored. He cracks me up.
We both left extremely caffeinated and happy that morign with the coffee choice. Would highly highly recommend checking them out if ever in the area! They will take off here in Chicago soon enough!
