Backlot Coffee

Saturday coffee adventure update for you all!

This has got to be the first weekend in a very long time that Danny and I actually have no real set plans and it is wonderful! Just plans to meet friends at a bar later this evening to watch some college football, but I wouldn’t call that a plan since it’s so casual and leisure. So naturally I wake up at the crack of dawn still and by 9am I have flopped around enough where Danny is now awake and willing to get moving as well. 😉

The only item I really wanted to accomplish today was checking out a new coffee shop, but Danny brought up a good point that we should also make a grocery run since we are out and about.

Groceries – Check

Coffee – Backlot Coffee house I’m coming for ya!

Backlot Coffee is just up the road from our new apartment on Old Irving in Avondale. It’s oddly tucked right next to the highway and could literally be missed in a second as the sign and entry are both tucked on the side street. Thank goodness Danny is the master at eye spy!

Backlot is ADORABLE! There is an entry from both sides of the building and you know you have walked into a killer coffee shop when there are no available seats and a line! The line was just a few people for a long time, but I was very impressed given the odd location people still managed to find their way here. Taking in the menu while we waited in line, there were two drinks that sparked my initial interest. One, the honey and cinnamon cortado; two, the oatmeal cookie latte! (Gosh dont both just sound mouth watering?).  Once out turn I had to ask the barista what the oatmeal cookie flavor actually entailed, cinnamon, honey, nutmeg and oat milk. UMMMM OKAY

We ordered two of those with an extra shot of espresso in each!  Oh and a festively decorated halloween sprinkle donut to share.

I am starting to slightly understand why this cafe is so crowded too, they do a good job of taking orders, but actually getting the orders out is a touch on the slow side. Once our drinks were ready I got to chatting with one of the baristas and he had mentioned that this also happened to be a busy time and day for them and with the espresso machine only apply to prepare a set number of drinks at a time it just cause a back up.

I wasn’t worried about it at all, was taking in all the beautiful thriving plants while we waiting. I also knew our drinks would take more time since we also added extra shots of our drink. Opps, part of the problem here.

Drinks ready to go we grabbed them and quickly snuck out the door to allow for other to grab their drinks. These oatmeal cookie lattes are straight fall perfection people. Not too sweet and just bring a smile to your face with every sip! I could drink tat a million times over.  With this being such a perfect fall drink we instantly got in the festive mood and took off down the road to Michaels to get halloween decorations.

It’s just the most wonderful time of year.

What is your favorite fall flavor?

  1. Today, I went to the beach with my kids.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and
said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed
the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but
    I had to tell someone!
