What better way to spend a day off that visiting a new coffee shop for breakfast! I can’t think of a better start to the weekend cna you? Tomorrow we are getting together with our family friends to tailgate at the Sox Game! I cannot wait to be with everyone and eat some chicken nuggets! Danny and I are making southern fried chicken nuggets.
But before all that fun kicks off coffee and breakfast with my love. I’m sure you’re wondering why we took the day off? Just because! No better reason or feeling, we have hopes of catching some of the air and water show practice later this afternoon, but aside from that we are just relaxing.
Since we were taking the car out to get groceries for tomorrow’s festivities we decided to take the drive up to the Irving Park neighborhood to check out Cafe Urbano.
A small cafe that raves about their coffee and paninis! Upon arriving it looked like the cafe was pretty open and not too busy this Friday morning, was hoping that since we slept in we would be able to avoid any Friday morning commuter traffic. I think we go in just in time, shortly after we arrived a medium size group came in and to note this cafe is so small they only had one employee on staff. Making food and drinks! Patience is key, I would not come in looking for fast service.
Right when we walked in I recognizes the coffee mugs and decor behind the counter, they serve Colectivo coffee! What a yummy unexpected surprize! We bother order a coffee and a panini, I got just egg, cheese and avocado while Danny got the cubano panini.
The wait is no joke, I am a patient person and I was not overly hungry so did not totally mind the wait, but I think the coffee should have been made first and then the sammies. I don’t know that is just me and how I like things done. The barista worked on the paninis first, which still took quite a while and then after bother were complete she then started the coffee. Now we both ordered lattes so a realize there is a little more work into making those drinks, but we were able to finish half our paninis before the drinks were ready! Opps, not really able to enjoy both together.
She was so kind though and even with the coffee shop picking up with customers she smiled the whole time. So don’t be a grump to these people even if they do move slow.
Coffee wise I know what I was getting taste wise and it did not disappoint, Colectivo has wonderful coffee full of flavor. Though I have to admit Danny and I were both left unimpressed with out paninis. Danny’s cubano totally had too much mustard on it, he is already not a big fan of mustard, but even I tried a bite and thought there was too much. This coming from the girl that will dip chips in mustard, yeah I enjoy it that much. My egg panini had WAY too much cheese, I should have known better than to even haven them put cheese on it. Dairy always bothers me, but this was more like a grilled cheese and it was muenster cheese. Not my favorite, I had to peel the top off and eat it open faced. So I would come back to this cafe but just for coffee next time, maybe their baked goods since I know they are from Colectivo and already know those are good.
Still a fun start to the weekend and a fun way to start our day off!
