Colectivo Coffee

Back from Milwaukee and what is the first coffee shop I go to? Colectivo!
This is ironic only because it literally originated in Milwaukee and this is the very first shop it has opened outside of the city.
FIRST EVER IN THE NATION.

I know what you’re thinking, why would I not go to the original when I was actually in Milwaukee, my logic was since there was now one open conveniently located down the street I had to try something I couldn’t get at home. I love this coffee shop’s style though, they are all about people coming in and hanging out. All of their locations have outdoor patios, occasional live music, they roast their own coffee beans and they serve breakfast all day. Each location has something special to them too. One in Milwaukee has swings for chairs outside and couches, another is right on the lake and the one in Chicago has a firepit. Very fun and inviting, also if you serve breakfast all day you will always have a steady flow of people coming in to eat breakfast.

It must be a thing that breakfast food tastes even better when not eaten actually at breakfast time.

ANWAYS, I took a Friday off because Becca was coming down so we could have a sister day and just hangout. What a better opportunity to go sit outside at Colectivo’s patio and just catch up all day while soaking in the last of the summer sun. I personally was a littler nervous, I have been trying to get to Colectivo since it opened in the spring with no real luck, on the weekends it is absolutely the hot spot to be, the patio is just he best and honestly on of the biggest I have seen for a coffee shop. But I also figured we had to be okay since it was a Friday, people had to be at work.

Strolling up to the coffee shop it is hilariously enough located directly across the street from a Starbucks, which I’m sure Starbucks just looooves. But at first glance the patio at Colectivo looked a little crowded, if you were trying to find a table for more than 2-3 people you might be waiting a bit, there were luckily a few small tables open. So we figured we would be fine to get out coffee first and then go grab a table.

Becca ordered an americano with raspberry sweetener, they have so many options not just the standard vanilla, mocha or caramel. They also had, coconut, blueberry, hazelnut, lavender and pumpkin. Quite the selection. I just ordered and plain iced latte, looking back which I had done the americano, they were very generous on the milk in the latte and sitting outside that later on did not agree with my stomach. Colectivo is also hugely into tea along with coffee roasting, so if you’re not feeling up to coffee they have a large selections of tea. I actually have slowly been getting a little more interested in teas and enjoy the taste a lot more than I use to, might need to try tea next time I’m here. Maybe once the weather starts to cool off, I can imagine drinking tea cold.

Both drinks were extremely delicious and refreshing on this hot August day, we scored ad table with an umbrella and sat there for at least 4 hours just chatting and taking in the atmosphere. It was awesome, so now having sat on the patio the crowds go in waves and people are really good about coming and going (not us). So even if you showed up and there was no table right away if you waited around for 30 minutes there would be a table soon enough or even seats at a few of the community style tables they have set up. Where would you wait you ask? Around the fire pit they have lots of bench style seating over in that portion of the patio there would be no problem finding some butt space there.

Another fun plus about the patio is its dog friendly! So you can come and hang outside with your canine companion!! Chicago people are all about places they can bring their pups, I never really knew this till I moved down there but lots of places have dog friendly patios so people can still come with their dogs and enjoy the restaurant. Great tactic if you ask me cause you will get more people in at all hours of the day since they can easily swing through while walking their dog. Becca has three pups so she was loving that feature and enjoyed watching all the dogs come through with their owners.

Overall verdict of Colectivo is it’s a great coffee shop with a killer vibe and delicious coffee, I would gladly become a regular. Next time here I want to try their breakfast food, their baked goods looked pretty good too so I would gladly give that a try too. On Yelp people seem to love their bacon biscuit, I’ll have Danny try that and let me know if it’s really worth all the hype.

This is a must check out locatio while the weather is nice and you can enjoy the patio!

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said
“You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell
to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
