Floriole Cafe and Bakery

Happy Labor Day weekend!! I hope everyone is out and enjoying themselves and this beautiful weather we are having here in Chicago. Today I have the Friday off so I’m taking this as a treat myself kind of day! First and foremost I woke up and went to yoga, then off to get coffee and check out Floriole Cafe and Bakery.

This is an absolutely adorable cafe and bakery located on Webster Street in the heart of Old Town. It’s absolutely the cutest places ever, I have walked past it many times and just never taken the time to go in. Mostly cause if you saw this place on the weekends it’s jam packed with people running in to pick up breakfast or baked good or people just wanting to come in for some coffee and pastries. They also bake their own goodies and fresh sourdough bread! YUMMY!! My all time favorite.

Fun sourdough bread fact: It’s a better bread to eat before a run because it takes the body longer to break it down so you will have energy longer and it will keep you full longer too. Totally random I know by my little sisters and competitive runners and one of them shared this nugget of knowledge with me.  Not being an avid runner I don’t know when I would use this but, ehh a fun fact to have in my back pocket.

So on my beautiful day off I stretched it out at yoga and was feeling great so I walked and extra block down Webster to check out this cafe, Danny was at home working from home too so I figured he could use a sweet pick me up.

Getting to the cafe there is a small section of table right outside to sit at but also the whole front window is wide open, I literally walked through the window to get inside, it seemed silly to use the door when this was wide open like that. Granted right as I did it I had a few people sitting at  the table near the window look at me with a confused look. Oops, well pardon me folks! New here.

The interior of this cafe is just stunning, simple but very cozy feeling. There are tables in the back with a window into the kitchen and then there is a lofted area looking down over the first level with more tables. The counter has all the baked goods on display, this ranging from anything from breads, muffins, scones, cookies, croissants and quiches. In another cooler right next to the baked goods they have cooled items, so tarts, fruit and yogurt and a couple salads! Yumms. I wanted to eat everything. Oh they also make their own granola and jams! I was very tempted by this sime jam on toast is great and granola in yogurt is a staple breakfast for me.  I’m a sucker for peanut butter granola or nuts in my yogurt first, then I’ll go for granola if I’m out of the nuts.

Yes, I am admitting to my nut addiction, but I don’t care nor am I trying to change 🙂

But I knew I would have my hands full trying to carry my yoga stuff and all the cafe goodies with two coffees, so I’ll be back to try their food. Especially their sourdough bread, what I do know about this bread is it makes the best grilled cheese! Try it out!

So I ordered Danny and double vanilla iced latte and a coffee for myself. I hadn’t had my coffee yet this morning so I was really needing that hug in a mug feeling. This place nailed it with the coffee, it was perfect! I snuck a sip of Danny’s latte and can also confirm this was so delicious, leaves me thinking their baked good have to be equally as delicious!

This cafe is set up a little more relaxed than Colectivo but they are trying to go for the same vibe, of come, relax and spend a  couple hours with us drinking delicious coffee and eating pastries. They also do serve alcohol, so if you came after work this would be a fun place to grab some wine and a few snacks while catching up with friends. It has the cutest French cafe feel to it, definitely a place to come with your girlfriends and sample all the tasty treats.

Has anyone tried any of the baked good from Floriole Cafe and Bakery? Anything that stands out as the best and a must try? I’m planning to drag my bestie here soon to sample some of the baked goods and would love to know what some of the favorites are out there.
