My morning ritual 100% revolves around coffee. So when I heard there was a coffee shop in
Chicago called Ritual Coffee I had to check it out and get a glimpse of what this coffee shop considered their morning ritual.
This was also another reason to get Danny out to explore the Ravenswood neighborhood with me. We have always talked about wanting to check it out and recently there have been a good amount of articles talking about how quaint this neighborhood was and some highly rated and recommended restaurants have been opening up in the area too. But clearly coffee would be the driving force to get us both to actually hop on the L to get out there.
Also, if I am being honest we had to hand deliver our rent and their office happened to be in Ravenswood too. I like to admit that it’s the coffee that got us up there but honestly it might have been the rent.
Either way I was excited to check out this adorable coffee shop that clearly has the same morning ritual as me; COFFEE!
Here is roughly how my morning go: alarm goes off, I’ll roll out of bed and go start the coffee pot, grinding beans and making about 6 cups for the two of us. You’ll see why so much is needed for the two of us. Then I jump in the shower, once done in there the coffee is usually just finishing up and I’ll go pour two mugs full of coffee. Danny likes his cooler than me so his cup will cool while he is in the shower and getting ready. From there I’ll parade around our apartment coffee in hand as I get ready. I kid you not people the coffee goes with me into the closet to help with the hard decisions of the day, what to wear. It then aids in styling my hair (or realistically just blow drying) and making sure my makeup is evenly put on. Never too much.
My perfect morning companion. I never let it get below half full and will a couple times add a splash here or there to make sure it stays nice and warm all morning. Danny is you more traditional coffee drinker. He will wait till it’s drinking temp, knock it back with his breakfast and then usually fill up with a second mug.
We are both very dedicated to our morning ritual and don’t appreciate when it is disrupted. It’s always nice to start the day off on a consistent note each morning, helps us both mentally prepare.
Back to how Ritual Coffee starts their day though, that’s really want you want to know.
It’s snuggled in the middle of a strip store right off the Irving brown line stop, easy and convenient for morning commutes to run in before hopping on the L to get to work in the morning. This is Rituals bread and butter, their shop is designed to be the quick coffee pit stop before work and they are killing it!
Not a very large space, counter style seating is available along the front window and side walls with one community table in the front. The baristas are friendly and quick at what they do too, not wasting a moment of anyone’s time. There are you typical coffee shop pastries in a glass container where you order your coffee, smart move since any hungry commuter would be more tempted by a donut of croissant with it being right in their face.
We weren’t even commutes and this sneaky tactic worked on us, we got a donut to share along with two vanilla lattes. Yelp reviewers had nothing but wonderful things to say about the vanilla latte and when I’m in the mood for something sweet vanilla lattes are my jam!
We posted up next to record player at one of the small tables along the wall, all the albums that they have line the wall on a thin shelf it’s great practical decoration! Our lattes were ready in hot minute and oh my goodness were they delicious, very very sweet, but perfect! The foam on top was frothy and slightly, not too much of it either, the latte itself was hot and the smell of the delicious vanilla bean was intoxicating. If you are having a taste for something sweet I would highly recommend this latte it was a wonderful treat to enjoy after forking over my monthly rent.
Oh I cannot forget to tell you guys about the donut! This was the absolute best cinnamon sugar covered donut I have ever had, every inch was caught in that delicious cinnamon sugar and the dough was warm, soft and chewy, I could eat a million over. Even and I write about it my mouth is starting to water. They don’t make them their, they are brought in I assume from a local bakery because I saw the big catering style box on the back counter. Regrettably did not catch the name, but I know I’ll be back for another morning Ritual coffee!
