Standing Passengers

Happy Sunday all! Off to another coffee shop today, Standing Passenger Coffee here we come!

This weekend sadly flew by for us and I wish I could relive it a million times over. Last night we had date night at Wrigley Field for the Fall Out Boy concert and it was AMAZING! Such an awesome venue and an even better performance. We both agreed it ended up being better than we expected too. But this morning after a night out of drinking I was so in need of some very strong coffee and lots of it!

I had a particular taste actually for Dark Matter Coffee, they always pack a good strong punch and I was really craving their espresso bean. It’s called Unicorn Blood and there are notes of nuts, peanut butter specifically.  Use this bean in a cortado. Mug drop! It’s amazing, there is nothing else you need in your life. I promise.

Lucky for me there are plenty of coffee shops around Chicago that have partnered with Dark Matter to roast their beans. Standing Passenger in West Town happens to be one of them. West town AGAIN here we come!

As you drive west on Chicago Avenue and pass under the highway the road goes through patches of construction where it is not the easiest to drive and navigate, especially for Danny as he will do what he can to dodge the potholes. I fail as a passenger too, I don’t really do my part in navigating at least to the coffee shop. I sit there and just watch the poor man struggle! Opps I don’t mean it, maybe it’s because I haven’t had my coffee my brain just doesn’t work fast enough. I always say I’ll navigate, but never actually do! #fail

As we are driving out to West Town Danny is juggling the road, traffic, his phone for navigation and my just sitting there chatting his ear off. Mind you also has not had his morning coffee. So he pulls over to better adjust himself, check the map and tell my big mouth to zip it 🙂 Hilariously enough Danny pulls over literally RIGHT IN FRONT of the coffee shop! We both started cracking up cause we were both looking on our phones trying to get the exact coordinates so that we don’t end up passing the cafe!

So we parked it and went in! YAY coffee time.

Standing Passenger is not that big of  a cafe as its name might suggest, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the space. They had a very inviting and large lounge area in the back of the shop. The barista was such a personality too! So chatty and just wanting to hang with whomever came through that morning. Well I came here on my mission for a cortado, so naturally I doubled it. Danny shocked me and actually went with the cold brew. Unfortunately the draft cold brew they have on tap typically was out. The barista couldn’t say enough good things about this coffee though. We will have to come back and give it a try.

I have had Dark Matter’s cold brew before and it is quite good and very strong, but Danny and I both agreed that it is in need of at least a splash of milk to help cut the acidic bite it has. The cream would help smooth that out. Their cold brew has a very rich chocolate flavor. Very good and perfect on hot summer days. Unfortunately for Sarah standards today was by no means a cold coffee drink day. It was a cloudy overcast day. So a warm cortado hit the spot perfectly!

What is your favorite Dark Matter Coffee bean or drink?
