Two Zero Three

Happy National coffee day everyone!

Two Zero Three cafe is where I ventured for coffee; a small 1920’s speakeasy style coffee shop!

National Coffee Day History:

The name “International Coffee Day” was first used by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum which called a press conference on October 3, 2009 to celebrate ‘International Coffee Day’ and to announce the first New Orleans Coffee Festival. International Coffee Day was promoted in China by the International Coffee Organization, and was first celebrated in 1997, and made into an annual celebration in early April 2001.”

Like a Hallmark invented holiday, Sweetest Day – October 15th (wink wink), National Coffee Day is just a holiday meant to be spent appreciating coffee, the smell, taste and the glorious side effects it has on us.

My visit to Two Three Zero actually happened yesterday, but considering the weather yesterday was 60 degrees, windy and rainy. Coffee was needed to warm me up, it all worked out perfectly. So this cute little coffee shop is located in the lobby of the Virgin Hotel, so you can only imagine how swanky and modern it was. First off the lobby of this hotel….. WOW! Fancy. Stepping through the door and into the dim lit coffee bar you’re greeted by the smell of coffee and the soft sound of a record player playing in the corner. I instantly feel as if I have stepped into a alternate universe. The dim light emanates a cozy vibe while the record player plays with the chic nostalgic vibe.

I LOVE IT!

Great jams as well, I took a peek at their vinyl collection and they can appeal to anyone with the wide variety. While I site here we are listening to some MGMT and before that it was the Monk Blues.

203-7

The fluorescent Cafe sign is AWESOME and very 20’s, playing of the chic feel. The menu is written in chalk on the wall surrounding the cafe sign. Great specialty latte selections: -Honey Bear (honey and orange flower water latte), Calm + Collected (lavender and green tea latte), Basic Batch (salted caramel mocha), Spiced Nut (almond chai latte with cinnamon), Hot and Bothered (chili chocolate mocha). What a variety! I’m telling you this chili and chocolate pairing are becoming quite popular. My facts are based on Starbucks now offers their own variation and Starbucks it not known for inventing a drink trend, they typically jump on it.

203-2

I wanted to try the Spiced Nut, but they were all out of Chai!!! Alert the police, how could this happen, clearly a popular drink. I’ll be back to try this, but I settled on the Green Tea Lavender latte – The foam was shockingly thick on top of the latte, took a big gulp to get through. But you initially take the delicious creamy green tea flavor, it’s not till after you taste the floral hint of the lavender. But man is that lavender delicious! Very light and refreshing latte taste, not overly indulgent.

203-3

Also, I couldn’t resist and ordered just a cup of coffee too. They roast Bow Truss coffee here which is quite delicious regular brew coffee. It’s a rich flavor with a chocolate after taste. This has actually turned into a once a week morning coffee for me. Doc B’s Burger Bar  has a partnership with Bow Truss and offer hot and cold brew coffee at the bar in the morning! Totally free too! So when I heard this from my co-worker naturally I had to investigate. It’s true and quite delicious. It’s a strong coffee if you drink it black, but I have found adding a splash of creamer really helps take the bite away.

203-8

Once I had both my coffees in hand I found a seat at one of the tables along the couch! Yes, I was lounging on couch while sipping both my caffeinated beverages! As happy as a clam. This is a great coffee shop to also people watch at, not so great for my coffee mate, who is trying to be a studious accounting student. (Sorry babe!) But both of the exterior walls are floor to ceiling windows that face the budding corner of Wabash and Randolph.

203-6

VERY POPULAR yet completely hilarious, also being attached to a hotel helps with the good people watching. If you’re able to snag a good seat make sure you have the time, because Two Zero Three wants you to stay and feel right at home.

203-5

I can’t say enough good things about Two Zero Three! WELL actually I could, they also are a wine bar. You put coffee and wine under one roof that is not my own, then you better believe I’ll be checking it out. Not much as far as wine and beer options, I don’t get the feeling this is the money maker for them here but I could see this being a great place to come with a friend to grab a glass before heading off to dinner or a show down the street.

Overall this cafe rocks and is a popular gathering location for friends and travelers alike! I cannot wait to get back and try more of their lattes!

How are you spending National Coffee Day? I’m open to suggestions for my next must try cafe!
