Bagelers Coffeehouse

Happy Tuesday folks! It’s starting to get cold here in Chicago which only means my body will start to require more caffeine to do ANYTHING! I wish I were kidding with you too, but no, now that it’s starting to get dark out at 4pm along with the cold I move from coffee pot, to desk, to bus and back to coffee pot. It’s the cycle of us coffee addicts. With all my vacation days I still have to use before the New Year I figure I should treat myself to a day off to bum around the neighborhood. So today I woke up, did a little work, because lord forbid I actually complete unplug, I’m pathetic, but then went to yoga and then off to this adorable coffeehouse around the corner on Lincoln Avenue called Bagelers Coffeehouse

I kid you not, unless you are looking for this coffeehouse you will walk right past it, I have a million times and had no idea it was there. Even walking here, looking for it, I some how managed to walk right past it before realizing what I did. So keep your eyes peeled. This place is ADORABLE! A small storefront with about 12 tables and a mini island in the middle of the space that has the trash under it and any coffee necessity you could need stored on top. Which I find to be a genius idea because customers can access it from all four sides, such a simple idea but a stroke of genius.

As I’m sure you can gather from their name they are of course a coffeehouse, hence why you are finding me here, but they also specialize in bagels!

Coffee and bagels = match made in heaven.

They offer the standard bagel option: plain, sesame, cinnamon raisin, everything, wheat and poppy seed. So I wasn’t wowed by those options it was the fact they made house-made  spreads and schmears that was unique. I asked and they are prepared every morning while the bagels are cooking. Besides the house-made spreads you can also make it a breakfast sandwich. Yum, adding toppings like egg, bacon and sausage or smoked salmon and capers! Pleasing all crowds and appetites.

Today I went for a small coffee and medium latte, I felt I needed to really experience both here, their latte options all sounded so delicious, but also extremely sweet: salted caramel, bourbon vanilla chai, 60% cocoa mocha, and 26% white mocha. I am not even sure that they present means for those lattes but, I stuck with a standard latte and the coffee beans they roasted today where an Ethiopian bean with a rich dark chocolate flavor. Wonderful cup of coffee, they rotate their coffee options regularly so any given day could be different from the last. I really enjoy that, makes coming back more interesting cause there is a good chance you will be trying something new each time. I’ll be back for bagels and more coffee.

I grabbed a seat by the window so I could take in the whole atmosphere. It’s quite peaceful and was not crowded at all today, the staff was absolutely wonderful to talk with and even the customers already in the coffeehouse where friendly and welcoming. This is not the shop for coffee snobs, you could come here, sit with a total stranger and probably talk for house. They have quiet music playing in the background but not loud where you  get distracted, a perfect shop to sit and get some work done in. I just want to point out that while I have been sitter here by the window at least three people have walked past three shop before needing to turn around to come in! It’s that easy to walk past.

Bagelers Coffeehouse has got to be one of my favorites now, I could sit here forever, the coffee was wonderful, I love a coffee with dark rich flavor so as luck would have it I came in a great day for a cup of Joe. Also my latte was delicious, now I’ll literally be up all night but it was all worth it! I could probably have preferred my latte a little hotter but I have that complaint with all lattes, the steamed milk always cools off the espresso more than I want it to. Not sure what I expect to change there, it’s inevitable. Next time I come I need to bring Daniel as he loves a good bagel and these have to be good since they too along with spreads are made in house! I mean hello a bagel shop I feel needs to make their bagels in house, otherwise it’s like selling the public grocery store pre-bagged bagels…. GROSS! Those are always kinda tough, I am not a fan. Fresh or nothing.

While sitting here, letting time escape me I also was looking into coffee shops in Phoenix, Arizona. I booked literally an impromptu flight out there to surprise my grandparents this week. Another way to burn through my vacation days and get away from the cold for a little bit. Does anyone have coffee suggestions for me? I would gladly try and go anywhere for a good cup of coffee, I also know my grandparents would love to go on a mini caffeinated adventure with me. They too appreciate  good cup of coffee, it must run in the family, because when I have visited them in the past they have a wonderful tradition of waking up, making a pot of coffee and enjoying on their back patio enjoying the wonderful Arizona dry heat and watching the sun rise. They are living the life! That will be me one day.
