The name of this coffee place basically sums up my experience visiting this uptown cafe: Everybody’s Coffee. I know what you’re thinking, how does that sum anything up? I’ll tell you all about it.
First things first, this cafe is a block off the lakefront trail so yes, you know it, I thought it would be fun to check this place out and also use this adventure as a good reason to explore that part of the lake front.
Chicago never ceases to amazing me with all the beauty there is to enjoy. I have a serious love affair with Chicago, it’s an addicting beautiful city. Even right this moment this blog post is coming to you from one of the many beautiful parks.
Took the Red line past Wrigleyville/Addison stop, so this was completely new Chicago territory for me. Never explored, I was a pioneer in search of her prize, coffee! A precautionary I would not suggest venturing to this coffee shop alone. The few blogs from the L stop are not the most friendly few block, my no mean unsafe, but not a solo mission.
The coffee shop is HUGE, I think this takes the prize for largest coffee shop I have visited so far. I couldn’t believe the open space they had, the coffee counter was to the left and it probably took up 1/4 of the total space. They then had three long bar height tables with stools on both sides and to the right of these tables there was a plethora of four seater tables and even a few two seaters along the windows. There was also access to a small patio with a few tables and chairs. When we arrived the cafe was not busy so we had more of a struggle deciding which open table we wanted to sit at.
The barista behind the counter was an absolute gem! She had an addicting bubble friendly personality and was making conversation with anyone that would talk back to her. I love this, being a chatter person as well I love when I can get others to interact and talk back with me.
There was a sign right next to the coffee counter with all the major coffee bean roaster I have been sampling, Half Witt, Metric Coffee Co., Metropolis and Counter Culture. Course I had to ask which coffee bean they had roasted this morning and what they best drink was. The barista informed me that typically they don’t decide till the morning off which bean they will roast for the day, but today they had Metropolis beans roaster. They also have an agreement with Metropolis where they source and roast a particular bean stickily for Everybody’s Cafe! How cool is that, this is the only place in the city to try this coffee brew!
HELLO of course this is what I’m ordering, I made the trek out here so you better believe I’m trying the coffee that is only served here.
The barista highly recommended the cold brew version with a splash of cream. It is a very dark brew with that cold brew bitter bite, but also has a sweet chocolate nutty hint that the splash of cream highlights perfectly.
Also being a little I asked what was good to eat, they are know for having wonderful savory breads. Unfortunately the tomato bread was already sold out for the day, but she did highly recommend their mushroom arugula croissant. She had it for breakfast this morning and said it was absolutely AMAZING! Since I was loving my conversation with the barista I trusted her suggestion and it was full order: one cold brew, one iced vanilla latte and one mushroom arugula croissant. I think with all my chatter with barista she missed the iced part of the latte request because it came out hot instead, opps. Maybe don’t talk too much to the baristas taking your order. I’ll take the blame for that mix up.
My iced coffee though, hit the spot. The perfect cold brew bitter with the chocolate flavor to balance it out. Adding the cream was also the way to go, this really brought out the chocolate flavor and in a great way. The latte was a standard latte nothing really special there, though I personally think they could have added more espresso, the milk flavor was all I was tasting really.
Okay, so I have now become such a coffee addict and maybe a tiny bit of a snob that I have started asking for extra shots of espresso in my lattes because there are some places that add too much milk in my humble opinion. I should probably start ordering a cortado instead, but I would drink that way too fast.
While enjoying my coffee and treat I was also able to enjoy the artwork that is hanging on all the walls of this cafe. They are vibrant animal paintings usually incorporating a kitchen or food item too. The colors are what will catch your eye, they practically jump off the wall. Fun fact, all these painting are for sale too!
This coffee shop is a true hidden gem, unless you live in the area you probably wouldn’t know it was there nor care to hike that far north just for a cup of coffee. Though if you do find yourself north of Wrigleyville come check out Everybody’s coffee; you never know what delicious brew of coffee they will be serving up that day. This makes it all more a special treat!
