Six06 Cafe

Spring has FINALLY sprung in Chicago! It has been a long time coming but finally the sun is starting to continually warm Chicago and all Chicagoans are loving it. The streets are lively again and people are out an about, is makes me smile just writing that sentence. Summer in Chicago is one of my all time favs, there is never a dull moment and plenty of events to pick from each weekend.

Today started like any other day, waking up with the need for coffee, but I had another driver getting me up and moving, the desire to get to the plant store and Home Depot to pick up some new dirt babies! Spring is the planting season and I have been waiting and waiting for the this day to come. So naturally I would plan any trip around a coffee shop, landing on Sprouts plant shot and Six06 Cafe for coffee!

The Six06 Cafe just opened this year and they are out in West Town, not as close to the 606 Bloomingdale trail and the name leads on. This was something I discovered when looking at it on a map. My first thought is it would be like Ipsento 606. BUT it is across the street form Hoosier Mama Pie, huge plus in my book! The Six06 also has a rooftop deck, can’t go wrong with that, coffee and a city view, you don’t see too many coffee shops that also have a rooftop, I was pretty pumped to check it out.

When we walked in the cafe was pretty open and we were told to grab a seat wherever, this at first surprised me since I was not initially prepared to take a seat. But you if you insist then I shall sit, we were brought food and drink menus and the decisions making started.

Right away I noticed they served Umbria coffee. I personally have not seen ANY other restaurant the serves their beans so this was pretty unique, since I work by Umbria and have had their coffee before I figured now was as good a time as any to try something new. I have not had much luck with Umbria coffee, it’s either the drink or the barista but I am just not a fan of their coffee. All my coworkers would call me crazy right now for even saying that, but it’s just not my favorite bean out there. Always has a weak flavor for me.

I went with the macchiato, which is suppose to have less milk than a latte and also not too much foam, cappuccinos are known for having all the foam, Danny went with the Americano.

While we were waiting for our coffee we both were browsing the food side of the menu now, it is ALL over the place with their food options. I’m talking Greek to America to Asian even. Granted these are all some of my favorite cuisine options but it really made it impossible to decide what I was in the mood for, this being a good thing since so much sounded good on the menu! Our stomachs had decided for us that food was needed so we stuck with the more traditional breakfast option to go with our coffee, though would gladly come back to try their spreads and dips. Being the hummus junkie that I am I know I’ll be returning.

Coffee came and unfortunately again I am just not crazy for Umbria’s coffee, the flavor was really lacking the kick I was looking for this morning. BUT that aside Danny’s Americano was phenomenal! Can’t quite put my finger on what I like most about it, the acidity was perfect, I think the water must have help cut that. On today probably would have preferred that over ice, but still hot it was delicious.

Hard to call the Six06 a cafe as it’s not your traditional cafe, I almost lean more toward a lounge look and feel, the coffee bar in the front it beautiful and inviting, there is an eye mural on the back wall, not sure what it means or stands for but I love! Its funky and has a ton of character to the cute little space. Looks like the even have a DJ booth set up so thinking this turn into quite the hangout in the evening too.

Now that we are caffeinated we walked down the street to Sprouts to check out their plants and Oh My Goodness do they have the cutest setup ever. I could spend all day here, I would leave a very broke lady but it has all the indoor/outdoor plants you could think of and the best vases too!

I highly highly recommend check this shop out if you are in the area or at all a plant lover like myself! You will not be disappointed. I left with a beautiful basil plant an this little cutie! <3

  5. Hi there! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog.
Is it hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure
things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure
where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Appreciate it

  6. You really make it appear really easy with your presentation but I in finding this topic to be
actually one thing which I think I would never understand.
It kind of feels too complex and very vast for me. I’m having a look
forward to your subsequent publish, I will try
to get the cling of it!
