I need to hold myself more accountable for the cadence of my blog posts! It has been a while and unfortunately I do not have a good excuse. (slap on the wrist)
Now that’s over, GIVE ME COFFEE!
Finally made it down the street to a cute little coffee shop called City Grounds. Sad to say it has taken me this long to get here, literally I can see this place from my corner. Better late than never I guess? I would like to say in the back of my mind I have been saving this quaint little coffee shop for a rainy day, a day when either yes it’s raining or even cold and I’m not feeling up to a hike for coffee, so basically a lazy day. Yes, even I the energy bunny have days when my feet feel like cement blocks.
Oddly enough I picked a hot beautiful sunny day and to top it off I picked City Grounds because I have been eyeing their patio! It’s beautiful and easily the biggest part of this coffee shop. From the outside City Grounds portrays an old school Spanish or European cafe or building. It is built with a pale sand colored brick, large wooden door with steel handles and a cobble stone patio in front. Tucked off the corner of the Armitage, Lincoln and the Sedgwick six way intersection you will find this coffee shop awaiting to take you across the Atlantic to a cafe experience far away.
The inside is quite small with two small tables and one large table set in front of the sliding French doors, that today because of how beautiful it is out where open. This is hands down the best cafe I have been too if you are looking for a quiet place to work or read, felt like walking into a library almost. The baristas behind the counter when not taking an order disappear into the back or are peacefully reading behind the counter. Also, to note this coffee shop does not play music so this added to the library feel.
The walls are decorated nicely with fliers of local shows, concerts events and charities going on in the area. City Ground proudly serves Metropolis Coffee beans, I’m telling you people, this is the BEST coffee around. I run into it more places than not. I was thrilled when I noticed a sign saying that was the coffee they roasted here, I’ll be back rain or shine!
The menu is very simple with a few specialty drinks that really caught my eye as unique, a few being; a Coffee Cherry Cola, which was black cherry juice, Almond Milk Matcha Latte, homemade almond milk and matcha and Powdered 7-Grain latte. I’ll need to go back and try more of their rotating specialty drinks because they all sounded so good, but today I stuck with the classic iced coffee. Perfect for a hot summer’s day sitting in the sun.
I could sit on the patio LIT-erally (for my Parks and Rec fans) all day.
They have actual patio furniture set up, a few lounge chairs and two couches with small round table sand a few chairs. Felt like I was sitting on a friends patio. The iced coffee also was perfect as usual and hit the spot as I lounged on of the couches soaking up some Vitamin D 🙂 I was a very happy camper, I guess since I wasn’t working having a little music in the background would have been nice, but I also love enjoying the silence. Life can come at you fast and loud so it’s nice to be able to take personal time to reflect in silence. This actually is a skill, not yet resume worthy, though not nearly as simple as it may sound.
Since moving to the city I make every effort to find the time to slow down, breathe and self-reflect on my day. Being a new avid yogi this is a skill which I have been introduced too and try my hardest to practice regularly.
I have made reference to it before, drinking coffee in the morning has gradually turned into a time in my day where I am able to sit and reflect on my day to come; yoga is at the end of my day and my chance to see what I have accomplished out of my goals for that day. Setting personal goals are very important to me, I’ll always have a few I am striving to achieve at one time. One or two simple short term goals and at least one long term goal. In yoga at the start of every class the teacher will asks us all to take a moment and set a goal or mindset to lead us through class. This is how I look at each day, how do I want to go through that day. Is there a challenge that needs to be overcome or a deadline to meet at work. My goals are what inspire and motivate me to bring the best me to the table that day. A huge thanks to my daily cup of coffee, which is like my own personal supercharger getting me up and moving in the morning.
What are some of the goals you have set for yourself? Does anyone else have their own version of a “supercharger” that help get them through the day? Would love to hear about it!
