Ready to visit the funkiest cafe shop in Chicago?
This was a completely unplanned and unexpected coffee shop visit, I actually cannot even take the credit for finding this one. It was not on my radar at all, Danny saved the morning by finding this gem!
Purple Llama
Happy Memorial Day morning! Of course planned to visit a coffee shop on my day off along with all my adulting tasks for the week cause we know I was not an adult this weekend. Have to rest for the work week, does anyone else have to do this?
What are the things you love accomplishing the day before work? For me it’s typically grocery shopping, working out and meal prepping to make the week easier.
So back to planning my coffee shop trip, I wanted to check out this cafe in Bucktown call Red June, its suppose to be a hidden neighborhood gem, also dog friendly!
BUT Sarah here completely forgot to check if they had special holiday hours, sadness. We arrive only to discover they were closed. This is where Danny swoops in to save the morning as we both are starting to get the caffeine itch, he suggests Purple Llama just down the road in Wicker Park. Kicking myself for not knowing about this place, it’s AWESOME!
Purple Llama is the combination of music and coffee, just too perfect of a pair. They are located on Division Street and have beautiful purple flowers plated on their patio. With purple being my favorite color I was jazzed to see this while walking up. The inside is very clear and simple with funky llama murals painted on the wall and accents of purple. Tucked into the back corner illuminated by a purple neon light is the record selection they have in store. If you check online you can order records through them too.
It was a beautiful morning and a 90 degree weekend so I was totally getting something cold. I have never actually tried my Chai Latte on ice, so I took this as my opportunity to give it a try! My only gripe with the drink was it needed another shot of espresso to balance the milk that was added. I should have thought to add this, but figure I see what it was like over ice normally first. Delicious and as the ice melts it helps cut the Chai spice flavor, so if you’re on the fence about this drink I would recommend trying it iced.
This cafe is totally funktastic! If I was not also trying to be an adult and get a few errands and such out of the way for the day i would have loved to sit on the patio surrounded by the beautiful purple flowers. Nuzzled right on Division if you have the right type of shades this would be a perfect place to grab a coffee and get some good people watching done! and
