Splish splash, here I come New Wave!
New Wave is a punk coffee bar right in the heart of Logan Square. Not sure how I haven’t stumbled into this cafe sooner since Danny and I have been to the Logan Square farmers market a few times and this coffee cafe is right on that corner! Just off the main boulevard in Logan among great restaurants as surrounding company.
It’s a cool and raining Saturday here so we planned a quick trip out to New Wave to get some coffee before hibernating for the rest of the day.
The decor of the cafe I guess you could call punk, but I thinks it’s more just random. Whatever art and decorations they found available when opening the cafe is what you will find on the walls, floors are old school cafeteria checkered tile. With the location of the cafe being right on the corner there are two entrances to the cafe and the actual coffee bar is smack dab in the middle of the cafe. There are then seating sections on each side of the cafe, se depending what door you came through you would be able to find seating on either side.
They are serving Dollop Coffee, which I actually haven’t seen or had in a while, it was a pleasant change of pace to see them on the menu! Was excited to give them a try again! I was about to go with the dcortado on the menu when I saw the special for the day was Honey Cinnamon latte! YUMMINESS! For the first time possibly ever Danny and I literally got the exact same drink!
I found the cafe adorable in its own funky way, it’s totally a local hangout for people looking to get some good coffee outside of Starbucks. If I lived closer to this cafe I would gladly cme and just hang out while drinking coffee, I bet in the warmer months there is some great people watching out on the Boulevard side. I have already told Danny that on nicers days I want to come back with Duncan and walk up and down the boulevard with him, there is so much grass he would literally love it! Once our drinks were ready we boogies on out, just to get back home and hide from the rain.
I really liked the latte, it had the perfect touch of honey to sweeten it, not much cinnamon. So if you’re in it more for cinnamon you would be disappointed, I was more in it for the honey so this was perfect. Danny was not totally a fan of his, which I found so odd after he said this, the latte is totally something he would normally love! I took a sip and the honey was much more powerful in his drink, I think he needed to give it a stur to help incorporate all the flavors. Sure enough once we got home and he gave it a stir it was much better! The espresso was all at the bottom, so he was just sipping foamed milk and honey. Yeah that would be no good when you’re expecting it to be coffee.
Such a pleasant surprise to run into Dollop Coffee again, since I have been working at Leo Burnett I have not easily been able to make to a cafe that serves Dollop. But I do enjoy their coffee, I’ll need to find one close to my office.
Anyone else a fan of Dollop Coffee, I was able to make it to their Lakeview location while it had been open.
