Happy Sunday Funday and what a beautiful wonderful day it is. Sun has been out all day and it’s been a perfectly comfortable temperature all day long. Couldn’t have asked for a better day to end this marvelous weekend on.
Gives me the opportunity to tell you all about Ipsento Coffee. Now before I get started on completely raving about this coffee shop I think it’s important to breakdown the meaning of Ipsento. Derived from two latin words. Ipse meaning “self”, and sentio, meaning “to experience.”

What a beautiful life message. Makes you look internally to connect with yourself and the journey and experiences that have helped shaped you into the individual you are today. When looking and thinking about life in the large scheme of things we really are all on a journey of self exploration to identify with experiences that define us.
A big self experience for me has been starting this blog, BlondeBeanHead! Connecting with coffee, Chicago, writing and being able to share my experiences with you all. It has been a true growing and learning experience that’s had it’s growing pains along the way, but it ALWAYS an enjoyment and in the end a great pleasure of mine. I could go on about this forever for I spare you all the details of my love affair with coffee.
Ipsento Coffee is an absolute gem of a coffee shop! They have two locations and I am already countdown the days till I can get to their second location. They one I visited this morning was in Bucktown right on Western Ave. The name, once you know the meaning, describes this coffee shop perfectly. Offering the largest variety of fair trade coffee beans from all regions of the world! With a serious focus in their coffee bean roasting efforts in providing a top notch cup of coffee. Ipsento offers coffee roasting classes, latte pouring art and history of coffee classes, sharing their love for coffee with other fellow coffee addicts. I have looking into taking the latte art classes, find that a skill that would be so much fun to play around with. Aside from the wide variety of coffee beans and classes Ipsento also showcases a large variety of specialty drinks.
When I say specialty drinks I really mean it, these drinks are quite unique. A few being: Cardamom Rose, using rose water and spice, Nutella, which is using chocolate and hazelnut of course and their signature Ipsento latte, using coconut milk, honey and cayenne. They also offer cortados on their menu which you won’t typically see listed. Of course, like most other coffee shops they offer a seasonal flavor as well, fall of course being the season for PSL the flavor was pumpkin. BUT mind you they use actual pumpkin puree to flavor their drink with.
We ordered of course the Pumpkin spice latte and the Ipsento latte. The real pumpkin puree makes all the world of a difference in this latte, you actually taste pumpkin instead of in other lattes you’re mostly just drinking the spices used in pumpkin pie. This latte was delicious! Also, the barista poured the milk n a fashion that the foam formed into an actual pumpkin shape! To die for it was so cute.
The Ipsento latte was also a knock your socks off flavorful latte. The coconut milk and honey brought the sweet while the cayenne packed the spice punch and helped balance the latte so it was not overly sweet and indulgent. This is a flavor I would gladly drink every since day if I had the option. I was SO delicious. I’m guilty of possibly having dreams about this latte since, it’s that good.
After getting our latte’s we ventured up into the back lounge area to sip and enjoy, there is a small patio front with chairs to sit outside at, but we decided to check out the back. I am so glad we got back here, what a unique funky place Ipsento keeps turning out to be. The back was a complete mismatch disharmonies collection of furniture. Looks like they went to an old Chicago house and before foreclosure took all the random furniture out, possibly did some yard sale shopping too. Everything from the light fixtures to the tables, chairs, benches, and wall nik-naks were all completely random but, somehow worked together, it was a glorious collection of random stuff!
I loved my visit to this Ipsento Coffee cafe, now even more excited to get over to the 606 Ipsento that is nuzzled along the 606 Bloomingdale trail! Maybe i’ll get the courage to rent my first divvy, divvy the trail and reward myself with some delicious Ipsento coffee. That makes the fear of Divvy renting worth it, those bikes just look so clumsy and if you’re not confident on bikes, which I’m not, I feel like other on the road can smell my uneasiness.
